Small zebra eel

I just purchased a zebra eel (10-12 inches)! He is going in the 180 reef aquarium. I have plenty of live rock. Should I add the 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe as a cave? I heard they like that but it adds a dead circulation zone. Any advice or suggestions based on experience?

Hey man I have one I used to have a pipe under the sand for him but it was polluting my tank so I re-did my rock and made my center island like a hollow cone and he stays in there and loves it ... so my advice is if you put pipe in don't bury it make it easy to get to so you can clean it out with a power head or take it out and clean it.... but if you can make a spacious section in your tank cave/cove like thats the best to me ... I post pictures of my setup

I love mine btw his name is Moe and get a cleaner shrimp the eel lets them clean them and clean inside there mouth its an amazing thing to see

Did you pick it up locally or online?

I had a hard time finding one under 2 feet ... finally found mine at coral corral ... it was about 15-18"

I found it online. Thank you for the advice about the piping. I will add the piping on top of the sand but behind the rocks. I am sure that in awhile the white piping will be full of corraline algae. I am anxious for it to arrive tomorrow!

What are you guys feeding your zebra eel? I have mine on three shrimp about twice a week. I am thinking of switching over to live fiddler or rock crabs. What do you guys think?

I would mix it up. Live food is ok some of the time, but squid, scallops, etc should be readily consumed as well.

I do shrimp most of the time and throw in somelive crab occasionally which is super fun lol and I've done clam before silversides but mine doesn't like silversides I want to get some squid to try
