Smaller place, bigger tank...My 200DD build

how big is that skimmer? the footprint looks huge

It's actually kind of a small skimmer. The body of it is oval, so it can be removed from a tight space easily. These Monterey stands don't leave much height to work with. The dimensions of the skimmer are 11.22" x 7.64" x 20.67"H. It's only rated for 317 gallons but it fit my criteria for a skimmer. Here is a shot of the narrow side.

Getting close to plumbing...

Sorry about the poor photos...still haven't gotten around to placing floor lamps and this overhead lighting creates quite a glare.

Looks good!!

Thanks! I am very busy with work and school but I try to do something with the build every day to keep it moving forward. Next weekend I have two days off in a row so I'm aiming at having it plumbed, water tested, and (hopefully) begin the cycle.

Looks like a really good spot for your system, looking forward to seeing it get wet. All in good time, though. I understand having less free time than one would prefer.

Just a few quick questions:
Did you have to use any foam, or yoga mats, or anything similar between the bottom of the tank and the tank stand? Does Marineland specify anything about this?

I'm sorry if I missed it, but what lighting will you be using?

And did you mount those 90's (I am assuming those are EMT lengths) to the wall, or to the back of the stand?

There is nothing b/w the glass and the stand. Marineland suggests it that way.
I'm going to use two ReefBreeder Photon 32's.
The 1" EMT is attached to the back of the stand

Had to swap out the 20L reservoir tank for a 10g. The 20L (and subsequently a 20H) would not fit. So, I spray painted the 10g today which was much nicer than rolling paint on like I have in the past.

Also started plumbing. Got the overflows mocked-up. I still have to putz around with the standpipes, but I'd like to have water running in the system to start that so I can fine-tune. It's a BeanAnimal design. In all pictures from left to right: full siphon, open channel, and emergency channel.

Had to change the plans a bit. Moved the sump to the back of the stand so the plumbing is a direct linear drop.

There won't be any access in the front right of the stand. The electrical switches will go in a box above the reservoir tank. The left will be open space to allow for access to the refugium.

The calcium reactor and phosphate reactor fit perfectly on the right side of the sump, right next to where the manifold will be and close to the CO2 bottle which will sit outside the cabinet.

Have to go out tomorrow to get some threaded bulkheads and lumber for the electrical box.

While I'm waiting for the threaded bulkheads to be delivered I got some work done on the box for my DJ power switches.

I designed the right side of it like that so that I only have to slide the box back an inch or so before being able to slide it to the left side of the stand. This way I'll be able to remove the box or the reservoir tank.

I used insert nuts so that I can remove a power strip if I need to without worrying about damaging the integrity of the wood.

The nuts aren't exactly straight, but they line up with the holes on the power strips. Not bad for a guy with limited skills and even less tools, lol.

Nice build.. looking forward to seeing progress... I also have a dd tank

Thanks! It's taking me much longer than I expected because of my work and class schedules, but I'm happy with the way things are turning out.

Question: I'm going to hit the box with some Kilz and then some flat black. Should I use water or oil based Kilz?
