Smallest pump...

I'm trying to find the smallest and quietest possible pump to provide circulation for a desktop pico system I'm designing. I'm thinking that I will need to use an external pump to minimize the space taken up inside the system, otherwise I will probably just use a MJ400 which takes up more space than I would like.

Of course, browsing online is not the best way to figure this out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your post, I had a Pico system on my desk a while back, a 3 gallon one to be exact. Unfortunately there isn't an external pump available that would not blow the water out of the Pico tank.

You may want to consider the Hydor SELTZ L20 Pump found here http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewI...umps-Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies~vendor~.html

What is unique about this small pump is that it can be used externally though you will need to add a small ball valve to slow down the flow a bit, form 185gph to what you want it to be.

This may be another good option for you the Tom Aquatics Rapids Mini Canister Filter found here http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_Aquar...rprises_rapids_mini_canister_filter_c_80.html

You don't really have to use the media that comes with it, but this may also be a beneficial option for just to add water volume to your Pico. Keep in mind that you can also use a small hang on the back filter found here http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewI...ters-Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies~vendor~.html

I hope some of these suggestions are helpful for you, if you do have any further questions feel free to call us at our toll free number 1.800.566.3474

Good Luck!

Walter
