Smart Buddy

I purchased a Smart buddy booster pump for my rodi unit and added a second membrane. So now, and I hope I have it correct, I'm running water through two sediment filters 1 micron then .5 micron then through 1 micron Matrikx CTO carbon block then to the buddy booster. From the booster pump dish charge to another .5 carbon cartridge to dual 90 GPD membranes out to two DI's. My old rate of 5 gallons made in 2 hours is history lol. The system is now making 5 gallons in less than 30 minutes. As I have it temporarily hooked up in my laundry room it's a mess. I will get it cleaned up and installed in the fish room hopefully in a year or three lol

This buddy booster in my opinion is very nice. No restrictor's required. It automatically flush's for 18 seconds every time it is used, and I very rarely backflush [emoji15], and It has a check valve installed from factory. It's very quiet when running, after getting the air out

The following video is just turning water and power on. You will notice the lines vibrating which I'm assuming was air. It's not loud now after I ran 5 gallons through it

Cool I saw those and thought getting one and a second membrane would be a good idea.
I like the simplicity of the unit.

I literally just bought one almost 3 weeks ago. I have BRS 75gpd With 6 stage unit with the tds monitor so before hooking this up my psi was 50 but when something in the house utilize the water like kitchen sink/ toilet it would go down to 35psi. Since using it I am up at 100psi and I make water so much quicker without any disturbance to the unit. TDS still comes out at 0 and I swear I hardly hear the unit. The most you will hear is a light humming. I went with this unit cause it was so much easier than buying a pump and then all the additional attachments. I think it's totally worth it other than the blue light that's always on it's simple easy and affective.

i was shocked to move from kirkwood to Manchester pressure. here im getting 90 + pressure without a pump. I honestly had to put reduction valves on these rain showers i have.
needless to say, i have a 8800 boster pump for sale.

Out of curiosity did you ever get the gauges installed? I ended up getting the booster as well as a second membrane.

My pressure used to be 58-60 psi right before the membrane.
With the SmartBuddy it is now 68-70 psi which is lower than I expected but I was wondering/assuming if it is due to adding the second membrane to save water. It says it is rated for 50-100 gal units so is a "˜150 gallon' unit (two 75 membranes) too much for it? Would it be smarter to just run one membrane at a higher psi or just leave it alone?

The way I'm understanding the dual membrane setup with the Smart buddy is that it can run dual membranes in parallel up to 100 GPD, not in series. Running dual membrane in parallel technically isn't water saver, dual membranes in series is. BRS has a good video on this

I still haven't put gauges on my setup to see what my psi is. I'm thinking of gauges across both membranes, incoming water pressure, and after filters but before the pump. So in total in looking at 6 gauges on my system. Which might be a touch overkill

Oh sorry I just assumed you were running in series.
I watched the BRS video I think you are talking about and the pressure was lower running them in parallel than in series. However in their video their was no pressure drop running in series. So now I am thoroughly confused but I will research it further.

I installed the only gauge I've got and I'd say if the gauge is accurate it's about 76 psi coming in before filters

And about 92psi is what I'm getting at the feed for both membranes. This reading is after a .05 micron carbon filter

That Pevely water was your key to success though, hope things stay alive

Sounds about right mine boosted a single membrane from 60 to 80psi.
I think I agree with you doing two in parallel is the only way to get this to boost it ~20psi but I don’t really see the point in doing them in parallel so I may just run the single and throw the old membrane away it is quite old so needed replacing soon anyways.

Parallel membranes just makes water faster. Myself I'll probably go back to single membrane as well. However since I just bought all new filters, I'm running duals till it's time to replace the membrane
