So we ended up fixing it! A temporary solution anyways, we put some foam in front and behind the rim, and the MVP in this thing is the dog collar! We tied it to the stair behind the tank, and that holds the light up. I hope to get a more eye pleasing mounting solution soon, but for now it does the job well!
