Smiddy's 260 build

Sweet! She's awesome. Awesome tank you have there. Thanks for the pic.

Thank you. She is actually pretty interesting... Post the addition of new leopard wrasses. My PBT was being rude and she came in and literally protected the two small ones. Now for the ornate leopard it was a different story she just watched him get messed with. Your welcome for the picture.

I am hoping to increase the SPS content by double after the holidays as my tank just turn 5 months. Then in hopes it will be an awesome tank.

Nice tank! I might be able to help with some pics since I have a DSLR and some tank shooting experience but LED's tend to make things harder. Maybe we can get together sometime and I can give it a shot.

Luckily I can change the LEDS to any color or turn them off and just use my T5's . I was lucky enough to get DSLR for Christmas, but I have ZERO idea what I am doing. I would love to get together and snap photos. I am always up for learning. Its like a contingency hobby if the tank looks bad HA!

Please don't judge me on my first night with a camera I know nothing about. I am not a photographer, nor do I know the real difference between ISO, aperture, and shutter speed .

These are my first attempts by playing with buttons and setting value that mean absolutely nothing to me HA!

nice ! my suggestion is to learn to shoot in manual and with an external flash or light. Learning the triangle of exposure, iso and aperture will be the foundation of good shots. Its really not that tricky once you play with it a bit.

exposure is the shutter noise you hear .. slower is more light hitting the sensor and blurry moving subjects .. faster is less light but freezing motion. So you make up for less light with a higher iso number if you want to stop motion. The aperture is the f number and sets the depth of field or the distance of subjects in focus front to back.. small f number like 2.8 will be thin line of focus and nice blurry backgrounds. Larger f number like 9 or 11 is for landscapes with lots of area in focus front to back. Im guessing for fish you'll want a high iso number, exposure in the 1/800 range and aperature at 3.2 or so. Sometimes I shoot one or two in auto mode and then base my manual numbers off that depending on what I want the image to look like in the end. HTH

Thank you for the advice. I did shoot most of those yesterday in manual mode. Based of my research. I will try out your numbers today and go from there. I do not have an editing software so the white balance throws me off a bit. Do you shoot fish with the pumps off similar to coral? What is the best thing to deal with LEDS?

The other thing you can try is a program called raw shooter (believe its still free) and play with white balance there but you need to shoot in RAW + jpeg. Gimp is another free one that will work if you don't want to buy photoshop. Ive had best luck with fish in sunlight or with LEDs off and using a flash or external light. Can try turning blue LEDs off and use only whites. Turning off the pumps and doing toptown shots are fun too There are also those acrylic viewing boxes you can shoot through.

I currently do shoot in RAW due to research. I will try Gimp and see how that works as well no blue LEDS. I have yet to see the acrylic viewing boxes! I will have to look into that.

Thank you

If anyone knows how to better my shots of the corals to make them true to their color, please let me know. All the blue and green corals reflect all the light and look white in the photographs.

Yes I like wrasses:

The pictures are looking much better than the cell phone pics! I missed what kind of camera you got?
I feel like every reefer should be warned that they need a good camera if they want a fish tank lol.

Beautiful setup man! I've been out of the tank game for almost 10 years. Looking for a house now and then a tank. This is one I'll be paying attention to!
