Smokin' Tanks

Hey all,

A few ppl have told me I should look at the Nano tanks, and after doing so I have to say well done. I would love to follow in your foot steps.
But as this is my first foray into marine I'm not sure if I should just stick to a FOWLR or go reef...
I guess my main concern would be my lighting as this unit is intergrated. 35w T8 is what the LFS told me, the fluro has 10,000k printed on it. I have also found out its only a 22g tank, not 30g as the LFS told me.

Anyway this is what it currently looks like..

If you guys have any ideas as to what can be done with what I have, that would be great.
Once again GREAT tanks

The lighting is not sufficient for corals and from the looks of your rock, you'll need clean up your water quality.

Read as much as you can before making your decision.

Thanks for the heads up about the lighting, the brown on the rocks is algae which only exploded after a freshwater top off, to lower my SG a frag.
I am waiting for a book from Amazon that was recomended to me by a couple of guys in these forums.

Also when you pick out rocks ... pick ones out that have intricate shapes, caves, and are porous. This will cut down on price and increase filtering surface area :)

Just let the damnsel hang out for a while as you do your research and decide what you want to do.

I noticed you said the algae bloom occurred after topping off with freshwater. Are you using purified water (e.g., RO/DI) or just tapwater on the tank?

Good point Josh, where have you been hiding?

Your top off water could be high in TDS but depending how high the salinity was and how quickly you dropped it could have created a die off and excess nutrients for the diatom bloom.

My tap water was filtered to remove bad stuff, the brown algae has almost gone. I do have minor amounts of GHA, I added a couple of snails and a hermit crab on the 21/10, but unfortunatley they passed on to a better life. This due to a heater malfunction, temp dropped to 20 degrees C, well atleast thats what my LFS thinks, but it has had no adverse effects on my damsel.
