Smoking tank

I didn't want to make this thread a smoking issue, just wanted to know if anyone had problems with a fish tank with smokers around.

Sorry for the side track...

I have seen a number of clubs with tanks and apparently they do ok.

There is one in Chicago I have seen by the Radison that has 1000G or so tank full of just tangs. Nothing else at all but maybe 25 or 30 tangs. They vent the tank outside the smoking area. It is inwall behind the bar..

thats kinda how i feel.. 8 hours a day of that would drive me insane as a fish.

ive been into clubs with them before.. the fish always look so jittery.
This is quite possibly the funniest thing I've read in a while...
"that would drive me insane as a fish"

Answer me this. Is it true that in an insane fish society
the sane fish must appear insane?

Keep in mind that the amount of smoke in a club or bar is exponentially higher than in your house. When was the last time you had 300 people smoking in your living room?

If he puts it 'in-wall' he'll have a physical barrier that will help reduce the amt of smoke that interacts with the surface. This alone won't prevent it. I would run carbon on the system and perhaps an ozone generator feeding the skimmer and he should be fine.

I would be more concerned with the thumping bass. I guess your fish will adapt....or lose their hearing.

It is probably a moot point most states will continue to adopt strict anti-smoking laws similar to ours in Ohio and smoking will not be allowed anyhow. Hooray!!!

Although I didn't read every post since I am tired, I did't see anyone really tough on the pH issue. That amount of smoke will lower the pH of the tank considerably. I would tell him to consider running an air line outside to the fresh air and put some type of bubbler in the tank to keep fresh oxygen coming in.
