Guess I'm overdue for an update. After battling cotton candy and bryopsis algae for a while I think I'm finally on the upswing of the fight. Most of the CC is gone and the bryopsis is only growing in patches now. Of course things started improving right before I went on vacation and the sticks started sucking up calcium, so even though I increased my CaRx output before I left and got calcium back up to 450 from 405, it dropped to 390 in the week I was gone. :mad2: Hopefully I caught it in time and bumped the output again so nothing goes in a slump again.

Picked up some new frags at the swap to replace a few things I had lost in the algae outbreak. Sorry for the quick and dirty picks but I stirred some crap up in the frag tank cleaning the glass and the lights were about to go out.

And I couldn't resist picking this little guy up from TRM Aquatics! He's easily twice as big as any I've ever seen in the local stores.

Oh, and before I left for vacation I was able to pull the egg crate out of one of the frag tanks and replace it with an acrylic frag rack which the tang and snails have done a fantastic job of keeping clean! I have another one to put on the left but need to make some time to get it done. You can still see some CC algae on the rocks on the left but there was easily twice as much on there when I left for vacation:

Thanks Nook! the tank is definitely not back where I want it to be yet, but it looks like it's finally turning the corner.

Wow! Everything looks a ton better, Kirk! Nice looking frags you acquired! I'm battling algae issues with my tank right now as well. Just did a long overdue water change tonight. Now I need to buy some new salt before the next one. Thinking of switching to a brand that offers 11 alk. Any suggestions?

Thanks Nick! I use coralife and it has always tested between 10-11 dkh and around 500 Ca I've never tested mag on a fresh batch but have read reviews of 1100 - 1300 on mag.

Did you have to work on Sat? Didn't see you at the swap.

Amazing results!

let me know when you have some frags. I'll make the trip to the end of the world for some nice frags lol.

Yeah, unfortunately I had to work. I couldn't request off yet since in within my 90 day probationary period there. So, you are think coralife is the one to use then? I'll buy a bucket if that's the case.
