Snail eating snails

I noticed a little baby snail on my live rock a couple of years ago when I started my first tank. He was a hitchiker because I noticed him before I bought any other snails. I was impressed with him because all of my other snails never lived very long.

Recently I started another tank and transferred everything over to the new tank, including the baby hitchiker snail that has grown to be pretty good sized and pretty attractive (for a snail). Last weekend I added 5 new snails. Day 1, came home from work and one had died. Same with day 2 and day 3. On day 3 I noticed what looked like some kind of web over the dead snail but I pulled it out and threw it away.

This afternoon I came home from work and saw the hitchiker snail go right behind one of the others and kind of "jump" on it and thought that was strange. Then I came home from dinner and the hitchiker snail was eating it. I had never heard of a predator snail so the thought of it eating all over my other snails never crossed my mind.

Well, the predator snail is still in my tank and I have only one of the snails that I bought left so I suppose I should get rid of him. Anyone else ever had this experience?
