Had my tank about eight months, got it used. This guy been in there the whole time but I don't know what it is. About 3/4in, very slow, and doesn't move a lot. So what is it?

Thanks for the reply Don. Both links look very similar to what I have. He's all closed up on a rock now so no aperture pic. As I am a n00b, what is a dorsum? Right now there are 2 mexican turbos and like 4 keyhole limpets in the tank. Are they in danger from the whelk? Should I remove him?

I doubt he's tough enough to kill the Turbos, and the limpets are hard for any of the predators to kill. He might kill smaller snails, though. The dorsum is the back, opposite of the ventrum which is on the underside where the aperture is.

It probably won't hurt to leave him in the tank unless he starts killing snails that you don't want killed.

Cheers,

Don
