Snail ID

Hi All,

I wondered if you could help identify these snails? It may be unconnected, however it has been suggested that they may be young predatory whelks. I have had a number of empty Astraea snail shells turn up recently which has for me wondering.

Any ideas appreciated. They were approximately 1cm long and had a proboscis showing prior to this photo

I think these can be identified as Pictocolumbella ocellata

Yes, they are not "whelks" in the bad sense, although they are related. They are dove snails, and do look pretty much like P. ocellata.
