I am no expert, by any stretch of imagination, but if I would to guess this snail to a family I would probably say it belongs to a family Marginellidae.

It's a predator, and will eat other small animals. I'm not sure how objectionable they would be in the long term, but in the short term you probably won't notice them doing much damage.
