OK, this is the weirdest thing. My wife called me to tell me one of our Astraea snails has a cracked shell. Upon closer inspection, there appears to be 2 snails sharing the same shell. At the normal end of the Astraea the snail seems oblivious to his "partner" living at the other end.
The other snail seems to have a long feeding part that is black and the antenas are white but there is no outward sign of a foot or shell. It seems like it is growing and this has now caused the shell to crack.
The partner snail seems to be munching away at algae so I have no idea of what is going on.
I'm 100% positive that they have been together for some time but, due to the position of the hidden snail, we just never noticed it before. It's because of the apearance of the crack we started inspecting it more closely.
Has anyone seen or heard of this and what should I do?
Weird!
