snail predators

I've noticed a couple of snails dead in the tank each week for the last month or so. There seems to be no discrimination between the large mexican turbos or the smaller astreas. I figured at first that they might just be starving off, but today I noticed these small white shells at the bases of two of the snails. Can anyone tell me if they are predators or maybe even babies?
If predators, anyone have any suggestions how I might rid the tank of them?

The small white shells are not of the same shell type of the snails they are on, and the small shells are not found on any visible flesh of the host/parent snail, only attached to the base of the shell itself.

They are called Pyramidellid snails and they are parasites. Do a search on here and you should find more info on them. You could try a dottyback, they will sometimes eat them. I know mine did.
