Snail Without a Shell

Here is an odd one. This guy is alive (not sure how well)... This has got to be the weirdest trochus I have ever had:

Found it like this this morning. I thought it had to be dead until I got closer and saw that it was still moving around, eating, and doing normal "snail stuff" in a decidedly non-snail like state.

This happened to me once years ago. It died about a week after losing its shell :-(.

I am betting it will not survive long. Calcium is good. There are a couple hermits in the tank that could eat it if it comes off the glass (but they have not bothered any snails to date as I made sure they have food and extra shells). My two clowns are not bothering either. 200G and not much in it...

As expected the snail did not survive more than a week. Still a very odd event in my book.
