Snail?

My wife and I were up late tonight and she noticed a small white snail or slug. At first I didn't think it had a shell, but it has a small plate on it's back. The creature looks to be solid white except for the plate has some dots on it. What is this and is it reef safe?

Thanks for your input.

Just a qwick guess with your discription would be a stomatella snail. Do a search to get a pic to see if I am right. Thay are reef safe if it is a stomatella.

My son has studied Melev's reef site and a couple others which is great but a little unusual for an eight year old. I saw this snail come out just a minute ago and tell Alex we have something new for him to check out in the tank. As soon as he sees it he says it he says, "Hey, that's a stomalla snail." I was just about to tell him what it was but now felt dumb and just stood there with my mouth open. He didn't pronounce it correctly, but knew what he was talking about. He said, "Come over to the computer and I'll show the picture." There have been many times he has brought up a subject I know little about and school me with the knowledge he reads and retains. I didn't expect to get schooled in the hobby I started reading about first. It won't be long before he knows way more than me about many things. I wish my brain could absorb information like that.

Yeah he's a smart cookie I could tell after talking with him while he was here that he was very intrested in the details. Man the internet can be an awesome learning tool if used correctly.

Yeah, I try to monitor his "studying" habits in case he gets curious about subjects he doesn't need details on at his age. I'll do my best to filter him.

Hey Marcus,Does it have antennas if so it is a stomatella.I have some in my tank that look like flat worms with a small shell. The shell is grayish with white specks.I have no idea what they are, but they are multiplying.

It is a white stomatella. I was just embarrassing that Alex knew without asking or looking it up after seeing it. I stopped worrying about him once I found out that he stays busy cleaning and is reef safe.
