snails breeding like mad!

I had about 10 large zebra turbo snails in my 80 gal. About 3 months ago I was lucky enough to witness them breeding in my tank:love2:. It lasted about 10 minutes. All of them were at the top of the rock work or glass and they were all letting off a white milky cloud. I was freaking out, thinking that this would crash my tank, but 20 minutes later the tank was clear again. I never thought the babies would make it in my tank. I thought the milky cloud would be coral food and what would be left of that would be taken care of by my skimmer.

However, over the last 1 1/2 months I have been seeing little babies all over the place!

I just did a quick count on the front of my rocks and I counted over 30 little babies and 9 new eggs on the glass. I cant even see what is going on in the back, but its safe to say I can easily double my numbers...

Is it normal to have snails reproduce and survive in the home aquarium???

Are you sure the "babies" you are seeing are not collonista snails? They do breed well in our systems and are often mistaken for baby turbo snails.

Thanks for mentioning this. I have googled them, but I cant find a difference other than max size. Turbos are much bigger. Other than that, I dont know how to tell the difference. One site says that the collonista snail has a small dimple or hole at the top point on its shell and mine dont appear have this. Looking at the large "suspect" snails, they do have the yellow and black stripes like the turbos have though. Do collonista snails have these stripes?

Here's a good picture of some of the collonista snails I got from my tank. Just for reference.

Man, where were you when I had three mantis shrimp to feed?! I'd have bought those snails off of you and got a breeding tank going. So lucky....
