Snails from the ocean okay?

So I found all of these snails near Ponce inlet near Daytona Beach when I was out on the boat today.
I think they're nassarus snails, is that true?

Are they safe? What steps do I need to make sure they're fine to put in my aquarium?

Thanks!

If you haven't already you might want to post these pictures in the Other Invertebrates Forum. Pagojoe should be able to positively ID those for you.

I believe that is subforum it is currently in, not sure. Haha.

Just wondering if I need to treat them with anything or do anything before putting them in the aquarium..qt...etc

Woops... :D

I don't think you need to QT or anything, but I'd definitely wait for a positive ID before you do much of anything really. It would suck to pour a bunch of Whelks or Ilyanassa obsoleta snails into your tank only to have to fish them out later.

Nope if you want to acclimate them in a bag you can but just place them evenly along your sand bed then they'll get to work.

They are definately nassarius but don't waste your time trying to figure out what type, there are over 800 lol, they do the same thing.

Does anyone know what I can feed a snail only tank to keep them alive? I just have them in a 10 gallon aquarium with a few inches of water.

Sounds like your already doing it, but I have to say make sure you QT them for ich. Don't want to bring those into your tank. Besides who knows what your bringing into your tank without a QT to study them. Don't make the mistakes I did. :(

I agree with you completely, but..How do you know if they have diseases during qt? With fish at least you can watch behavior and see spots and what not. What about something like a snail where most of it is inside a shell?

Most parasites have a cycle. So by watching them for a month, they cycle (usually) is completed.

Snails don't get ich, however.
