Snails-Nitrates?

I'm looking for some advice. I just got 15 Aestera (sp.?) snails and a few turbo snails and was told that they don't tolerate extreme nitrates (over 20). First of all, I never knew 20 was considered extreme (mine tends to go over that at times), second of all are these "extreme" nitrates really going to kill the snails? I have no other inverts and I'm really not interested in spending for an RO/DI unit for my FOWLR tank.

Thanks.

Inverts are very sensitive to high nitrates. Will it definitely kill them? Probably not. But they will not be happy with you. When I first put a bunch of snails in my tank I had high nitrates and they all lived but were very lethargic. Now my param's are in line and they move much faster.
