Snails -- PLEASE READ

Krazy

In Memoriam
Well overnight I think most of the snails died, they smell like death times 10...

anyways... I wrote the seller and she is going to send me another 300 this week, so come next weekend those who wanted them will be able to get em..

I'm sorry for the delay but I've got ones that arent dead or will die on you on the way.... :(

Keith

PS: I added 25 to my tank yesterday, they are still kicking but it seems most of them in the bowl appear dead, there's some still alive, I dunno if they hibernate in cool water or what, I'm picking out the alive ones that are moving and putting them in a cup....

how can u tell if they are dead or not ?? its so hard with 300 of these damn things

the last time i got them I found that you have to change the water they are in every day..

I changed the water at least 6 times yesterday and I've changed it 3 times already this am ...

they is some smelly snails !!!

The letter that came with them says it can take up to 2 days for them to be acclimated but with that stench I know some are dead at the least... the ones that are moving I put in my tank, my queen conch ate 4 of them last night, I seen she had one stuck to her last night then this am there was 4 empty shells next to where I could make out she was under the sand...

Well I threw them out, they have stunk up my apartment enough, I will wait for the next batch, I will update next week when the new ones come in and those who wanted some I will PM you...

possible they arrived dead already and or partially parishing.. D.O.A.

yeah I belive they did from the smell, I suspect the heat wave last week, near cooked em... I got 300 more on the way though, good seller but still a pain !!!

also be sure to acclimate them extreamly slow. since the water is fouled during shipping the shock of clean water kills any survivors off. drip them for as long as possible(1 hr at least for best results). temp must also be acclimated correctly. snails ship poor and acclimate slow to not at all. once the lfs gets them and acclimates them we can be less dilligent on acclimation but that first transfer after shipping is critical .......it has to be done slow and right. not always but in my experience it is common.

actually u would be surprized how shipping in water versus little to no water has no effect on snail fatality for shipping. snails are used to being out of water for a few hours as long as moisture/humidity stays high. i have recieved healthy snails shipped in little water. i believe a snail meet we had once in past had all our orders in bags with no water(about 100ml maybe)). the snails all faired well.
