I noticed late last night that I have aquired at least 150 baby snails. They are not visible during the day.I have been in this hobby for 6 years now and have never seen anything like this. These snails are very small in their shells. It this anything to be concerned about? Should I removw some from my tank? Do snails reproduce in capitivy? How can I be sure they are snails? I hope this is not a stupid question? I am just baffled.. I am pretty sure they are Nasserious. Pardon my spelling!!

Some snails can reproduce in captivity, but more often than not, reports of baby snails turn out to be adults of small species that hitchhiked in. There's no need to worry about them. Their population will be self-regulated by the amount of food.

Greenbean,
No disrespect meant, but I think you might be wrong. In my last tank, I had 20-30 little snails appear on the glass long (at least 6 months) after I had introduced anything at all to the tank. This was after it was set up for about four years.

They didn't last long, maybe a week or so :(

No, they weren't the common little spiral feather dusters that pop up all the time!

I wasn't talking about mistaking featherdusters for snails. I was talking about mistaking very small adult snails like rissoids for babies of other species like ceriths.

It's certainly not unusual to have baby snails in a tank, and I've had many myself, but quite often when people suddenly notice small snails at night, they're not seeing babies.

Dear hobbyist , in my 150 gallon aquarium ,I had 2 limpets . Conditions must have been good, because they apparently bred and spawned. Now I have plenty of baby limpets eating algae. They come out at night and are fascinating to watch. I also have Vermetids, these snails are reddish brown with a spiral shell and a tube pointing upward, which they use to emit mucus in order to filter feed. They're also breeding within my aquarium and within my canister filter abundantly. There are so many of these snails in my aquarium that my wrasses are growing large .
