Hi, Ive just purchased a snakelock and its happily settled in my tank on a piece of live rock.. a few questions, are they reef safe ? will clowns host in them, and do i need to feed or can they feed off the nutrients in the water.. ??

if i was to feed, can i feed on frozen ( will thaw first ) prawns, the sort bought from iceland , once washed ??and cut up..

thanks

Huh? What is a snakelock? First you need to get the anem ID'ed before we can tell you what's up. Do you have pictures? This is by far the easiest way to figure it out. Pictures of tentacles, mouth(oral disc), and the base would be preferable.

Snakelock ive seen them before they are not natural hosts to clowns so there is always the chance they will eat your fish

crikey ! well if i get a anenmone that is a host for the clowns, will the clowns stay in that and steer clear of the snakelock ?? seems a shame to drag him out and take him to shop now..

also on the feeding, i know it sounds daft, but can you feed them on prawns that you buy from supermarket that are cleaned and shelled ? if i defrost one and wash in will it be ok ??

thanks

Atlantic/cold water
Snakelock Anemone (Anemonia viridis)
This anemone cannot withdraw its 200 or so tentacles so they constantly writhe about in the current searching for food. They are mostly olive brown and apple green, some have purple tips to their tentacles where the greatest number of stinging cells can be found..

Moss, i would certainly steer clear of having two anemones in a red sea max, assuming that's the tank you've got the nem in.

thanks for advice ok i wont get another, yes my tanks the red sea max, what do you suggest is best and easiest to keep for the clowns to host in ??

By the way, I've found my best fish foods come from the grocery store. Yes, prawns are very acceptable, but before feeding, you should freeze them, grate them with a cheese grater, and get it into smaller pieces. The good thing: your clowns will love it too. Add Selcon and Garlic Extreme to your food to increase its usability. By the way, don't use pre-cooked prawns:)

Bubble tip anemone

Yeah, Bubblie Tip Anemone (Entacmea Quadricolor) seems to be the easiest anemone to keep, especially for the first "hosting" anemone.

Bubble tip it is then guys, with two baby clowns will purchase this wkend, and a cleaner shrimp too i think to add to my clean up crew, which consisits of 8 hermits, 2 turbo snails that have burryed them selves ! and a few very small starfish, and a unknown tiney snail that arrived on some plant seaweed !

Best and easiest is by far no anemone. Clowns will host in just about anything if they decide to host at all. Pretty much any coral is accepting of them and they are accepting of pretty much any coral.

If you are definite on wanting an anem, please don't think I'm trying to talk you out of it. Anems are awesome and I love mine. BTA's are considered the hardiest, easiest, and best anem for hosting clowns for a new anem keeper. Stick with this if you go for an anem.

thanks, i will give it my all, i guess they arent too hard to feed ?

i see you have a lot of what looks like zoos in your sig pic, are they easy to keep ?

thanks
