Snorkeling/ Exploring in Ft. Morgan

My family will be vacationing in Ft. Morgan, AL in a couple of weeks. Our first visit to the area. We are looking for interesting places to snorkel or explore for sea life. We love to swim around looking for crabs, fish, etc. Any calm pools or jetties that anyone knows about? Looking for a place we can get to without a boat.

If you know of any other cool places to visit or eat, we are open for suggestions.

I read that fishing for blue crab is pretty fun. May try that. Might also try surf fishing for the first time.

Thanks in advance.

On the way to Ft. Morgan you will cross a little bridge over the outlet of Little Lagoon to the Gulf. I have found some little shrimp, hermits, and gobies on the walls there. I was just wading but I imagine snorkeling would be fun as well.

Have a good time!

I love Ft. Morgan...that's where I have been going for years and also where I got married right there on the beach in front of the Beach Club Resort. Any of the inlets from the bay to the ocean is a great place to see sea-life. Tons of crabs in the bay areas. Unfortunately not a lot of brightly colored fish there. Have fun, it's the most relaxing beach I have ever been to. Make sure you visit Dauphin Island and see the Audubon bird sanctuary and the marine science labs, very cool stuff. You can take a ferry across to the island from the end of Ft. Morgan peninsula.

If you dont mind a little drive there are many places on the pan handle of florida. If I remember the name right Port St Joe is where we have been. Its a little farther down. Lots of calm lagoon type areas. Alot of sea grass beds filled with rays, fish, and inverts. The place is crawling with fiddler crabs. They are worth the trip alone. There are also lots of csmp sites and picnic areas there too

Sorry...could not remember how far it was. We stopped all along the way at various spots so it was hard to remember how far the trip actually was.

It sounds like this may be a little too far away. But a lagoon type waterway is exactly what I'm looking for.

Anyone know of any near Ft. Morgan?
