Hello,

I'll be in the Key's in 3 weeks for a vacation and would like to go snorkeling. Anyone have a preferred reef to snorkel? We will be staying in Key West and Islamorada.

Thank you.

The family and I love diving and snorkeling at Sombrero Reef. It is in the middle keys, Marathon area. We've used Spirit for snorkeling and Tildens for diving and SNUBA
One of the great things we love about the keys is taking advantage of all the free, very good shore snorkeling areas. The tangs, angels, butterflies, parrot fish etc, can all be seen along the rocky shore areas.
Of course you need to visit the off shore reefs to really appreciate the beautiful fish and corals. Pay attention to the weather forecasts and try to go on a day with great visibility.

Enjoy it

Was just there and did looe key. Very cool, saw a lot larger fish than I've seen the times I have done pennekamp. Saw a Goliath grouper under our boat that was about 6-7 feet. Tons of huge parrotfish and some hogfish as well. Strike force was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. Favorite part of the weekend was at Sombrero beach though. Great rock structure on the far left of the beach and saw tons of stuff. Being 1-2 feet close to the rock I could see way more stuff. Fan worms, urchins, cool damsels and butterfly fish. Can't wait to go back. This was all really close to where you will be. Check out Robbie's in islamarada to feed the tarpon. Have fun

If you have time , also check out theator of the sea in Islamorada. Kids loved it, they have a private small beach in the back were you can snorkle, or just wade in and hand feed the parrotfish.Lots of fish and critters to see in thier displays.
