Snowflake And Clowns???

I have a 180 FOWLR and I have a pair of Ocleris Clowns and would love to add an eel but I am worried about the small size of the clowns with a Snowflake Eel. Do think its a possibility to have a Snowflake with the pair of clowns since the eel eats crustaceans or does it eat small fish too??

Any help would be very appreciated

Thanks

Those are a little out of my budget range but thanks for the suggestion. Are there any other dwarf eels a little more affordable that would be compatable with the clowns???

I help at a lfs and we had this debate.... after one of the employees sold a young lady a clown and a snowflake.... long story short ... clown is missing and hasnt been seen in a month

While fish are not the primary food for a snowflake, it does occasionally happen that they eat a small tankmate.

A snowflake isn't likely going to eat a healthy clown. Now if the clown was sick/dying it may have finished him off. This is also somewhat dependant on the size of the SFE. A smaller SFE is less of a danger obviously.

I don't think I agree with this. I tend to support Billsreef; they may not hunt them, but if available, they may eat them. Best food for them, however would be raw squid or octopus. use a feeding stick.

Thanks for the help:D

Do you think if the clowns had a host anenome would that help. I have the right lighting capable for anenomes, I think. Would a Captive Sun Metal Halides be sufficient for an anenome??

I have had a zebra moray for many years, and kept it with smaller fish like clowns and a royal gramma. The ONLY time it ever hurt a fish was when it and a trigger grabbed the same piece of shrimp - the eel accidentally clamped down on the trigger's head (it survived this, though).

If you want a definitely fish-safe eel, get a zebra moray. Mine is between 3.5 and 4 feet long (got it at 20 inches or so) but it sounds like your tank is big enough.

I doubt if an anemone would make any difference to an eel ready to eat a fish... Personally, I think a well fed snowflake (especially if you start out with a smaller one) is a safe bet... However, my experience has been that the two snowflakes I've owned both "walked" out of covered tanks and died. I kept the zebra moray in an uncovered tank for many years and it never wandered. (It's in a well-covered 210 now.)
