I am going to start this thread off by saying I am a little confused. I was hoping to incorporate a snowflake into my 30 gal scorpionfish set up, but I can not figure out if I can do it or not. According to reef fishes vol. 1 by Scott W. Michaels, min tank size is 30 gals and it would then work out. But I wanted to double check, so I checked here and a few other forums. From this and other forums I got tank sizes from 55-125 gals! So what it boils down to is, could I do it? Is Scott W. Michaels wrong or is this information outdated? Or would 30 gals be with the snowflake being by himself?

Beautiful fish, but they can get big, like 2 or three feet. Gentle, but can and will knock things over. Needs places to hide, but will come out for feeding. Once it's comfortable, will swim around knocking things over. Need a closed cover. they like to explore and will back out over the edge. Tough though. Had one on the floor for almost two hours. Plopped him back in and he recovered.

A bigger tank is better.

I am no expert but don't think it would be enough room. LA lists 50g as the minimum but I think that is probably on the low side. I have an 18" one in a 120g.

The recommendations are really based on filtration limitations and the fact the intention is almost always to have additional fish, it’s not about not the space the eel needs. A system with a small display and giant sump would actually be awesome for an eel only tank IMO.
