Snowflake in a reef?

I am looking to add a small snowflake eel to my reef. I currently don't have any shrimp. The only potential meal would be tiny hermits, and my scooter blenny. The scooter is about 3 inches, so he is pretty big. I would definitely keep the snowflake well fed. Other inhabitants are a foxface, solar wrasse, some chromis and a yellow eye kole.

any have success with a snowflake or dwarf eel in a reef ?

I had a snowflake many years ago in an LPS dominated tank. Tankmates included fish such as clowns, hawks and tangs. Personally, I didnt have any problems, he was very timid. Although every eel is an individual and may pose a small risk.

In my experience the most reef safe eel is the zebra moray.

I have a 3 foot snowflake and a 3 foot zebra in a 150 reef and no problems, except they often move rocks around by digging/moving though them.

Zebras and golden dwarfs are IMO the two best eels for a reef setup. Snowflakes are usually docile, but I have seen/heard of larger snowflakes eating sleeping fishes at night and getting a little mean. You will also want to make sure your rockwork is steady, because they will dig at first. In your 210 I think a zebra would be sweet.

My snowflake dug like a miner. I would not put him in there unless your rock is tied, glued, cemented or fused together. LOL. You'd be amazed at the strength of an eel of such small stature.

Hey there,

I have a huge snowflake eel in my 180 gal reef tank. He's great, I have had him for 3 years and he doesn't hurt anything. I would say he more timid then anything in the tank.
I have a cleaner shrimp that lives in the same hole the eel does and the shrimp always is in his mouth cleaning it. The funny thing is to that all the eel likes to eat is shrimp. I also own a banded shrimp and a camel shrimp, they are not bothered by the eel either.

Well, I dont know if this is a Ripplies beleive it or not incident but its true.

It is true though that I wake sometimes and find some rocks out of place I think its from him because he comes out at night.

If you would like to see some pictures of it let me know and ill get some.

My snowflake is pretty docile and is easily picked on. My dwarf angels especially hate him and bite his body when he is out and about moving. Other than that he is great. I keep him with some pretty small fish and he could care less.
