So bummed out. Mistaken identity...

Well I've always wanted a Fowleri Tang ever since I saw pics here on RC few years ago. I totally fell in love with them. Such rare beauties. I eventually bought a juvenile that later died due to ich. I was bummed out. And my latest one I ordered online. I've had him since late 2010. It came in still at the light colored dull stage. It was just a matter of time before it grew and the colors started to come in. Now the color has come in but never to what I expected. There would be times I really thought that it was a Bariene Tang instead. But I thought the online vendor should have it right. That is until lastnight! I just happened to see more pics of Bariene Tangs. Then I looked up Fowleri Tangs again and noticed the distinctive spot on the cheek past the eye of the Fowleri Tang...then I realized "heck mines don't have that!!?" I feel so bummed out that all this time it was a Bariene instead of my love the Fowleri. Yes I know the Bariene is still one cool heck of a fish no doubt! But man...I'm bummed out. :(Here's some pics. It is a Bariene correct?

yes your right you have a bariene i had one for 3 years cool fish they change colors at will but it sucks that the online vendor couldn't id the right fish i would be bummed to

Yep, that's a bariene. Fowleri have more blue in their tail and the larger mark on the side above their pectoral fins.

Still a pretty fish.

I dont blame the retailer for mistaking the identity. Fowleri, Bariene, Dussumieri... they all look very similar when young.

That is a bariene tang and I have one too at 6". It's a beautiful fish, every bit as beautiful as a fowleri. However, the true colors don't come out until it reaches adult hood at around 8-9". By then the colorful stripes and spots will appear.

But yeah, I understand how you feel. If it's a good vendor you ordered from, I am sure they will work something out with you, perhaps even give you a full refund.

That sucks, but still a very nice looking fish. This is almost 2yrs later. I doubt they
will do anything for you.

So today I went to buy a Fowleri Tang that a fellow reefer was selling. Bummed out again! He also had a Bariene that he thought was a Fowleri! ArrghhhH!!:headwally::(
