looks good ph and dkh are the same thing ph/dkh should be 10 but 8.5 will not kill things

This is not true at all. Dkh is a measure of alkalinity and pH is a measure of the acidity. The pH should ideally be 8.0 to 8.4 and will vary during the day. Dkh should be in the 9 range.

A pH of 10 will kill just about everything.

It is important that you understand what these values mean and represent, come talk to me at the next meeting and I will try and explain better.

Regards,

Paul.

yes ph is not dkh, dkh is the measure of alkalinity thats my bad ph should be around 8.3 i woke this morning and was like **** i said the wrong thing my bad. thank god someone else caught my mistake, Thanks

If you would like to "test" your tank to see if it is cycled. Add a pinch of food and test the next day. If it is all clear you can add a pinch of food every few days and continually test to see if anything spikes. If you do this over two weeks and nothing ever spikes you are probably safe to add a small hardy fish. This will also help build up the good bacteria before you add a fish. Just dont go crazy and dump a bunch of food in. You dont want to overload your tank and hurt the coral you have in there. Some peoples tanks never show elevated levels. People generally want to see these levels spike at some point so they know that their tank has built up a colony of good bacteria. All my tanks cycled in about 6 weeks but its different for every one. I would not recommend adding livestock to any tank under 6 weeks old and I would start with something small and hardy. Then wait a month and let your tank adjust to added bioload. I never add more than one fish a month unless it is a pair or shoaling fish, and I would watch the tank very carefully and do water changes as needed in these special instances.

I would use a pc of raw shrimp, or frozen food. dt's is a phyto for filter feeding corals ands inverts. sorry which dt's are you using?

Dt's phyto? It should serve the purpose. I dropped some pellet food in for mine. The hermits love it too. Frozen would work too. I would worry about going the raw shrimp route with your tank because you already have coral and intentionally cycling the tank could hurt them.

Ok so while I am reading online I would like to find out what books you all suggest for me to read. I would like to know what book to read from the COMAS library.
