So since Richard sent out the message of "We have Rock" I havenââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seen a lot of new pics. Please post pics of you new rock so we can all share in the splendor!

Those of us still in plannig need a carrot (well want one is more like it)! :reading:

Thank you all in advance!

Just got my shipment today. Will post pics tomorrow night after I get everything in...assuming I figure out how to get the sand in. :D

Ok, here are my pics

Ok, here are my pics

I snapped a few shots before I put the rock in the tank. The first two rocks were HUGE. Essentially, one big rock in each box. They span the entire width of a box top. Tons of stuff on both, including one that has some kind of plant stem rooted on it. Hopefully you can see good detail on these. Had to shrink them down quite a bit to get under 50K limit. I'll take some closeups after the tank clears up.

I received my second 100 lbs of rock this week, but have not had time enough to do much more than get them into the tank.
With luck I will be rearranging and aquascaping today, and will post photos afterwards.

DCDeacon,

Looks like you got a nice bonus urchin too!

Some of your plant thingies (green, looks like it's been cut) may actually be the byssus of a clam. Many of the TBS rock clams release their byssus (byssi?) and wander off, leaving a green byssus attached to the rock.

Good looking stuff! Eagerly awaiting a shot of your tank!

Hy, is it true that urchins are big coraline algae eaters? If so, I may try to find a home for this guy if he survives the trip and cycle, because with a small tank like mine I dunno if I can afford to have him running loose. Thoughts?

Urchins eat corallines, but they're unlikely to clean you out. Just hang out & see how he does. They eat algaes, including diatoms, hair, and other film algaes, and their eating apparatus can scrape coralline algae to eat it.

Mine scrapes some corallines, but doesn't leave bare rock behind.

The biggest problem with the urchin is that he knocks everything over as he wanders around. (And if you try to remove him from a rock, he can suck down pretty hard). But if you catch him on a small piece of rock or sand, he's easier to remove.

He will, in most likelihood, survive your cycle quite well. My wife and kids think my urchin is very cool, and would be highly resistant of any suggestion to relocate him.

As an aside to having an urchin, if you have an acrylic tank you may want to remove it. The teeth on an urchin can do a pretty good scratch job on acrylic. Not a problem with glass . FWIW

PS Thanks for sharing the pics... keep 'em coming:D

biomekanic, are you talking about the stem in the 2nd pic above? If so, should I just leave it alone and see what happens (ie, whether it survives or not) or should I go ahead an remove it? How do I know whether it'll come back or not?
