So I got one of those OG Orange Krush Rics on the way

Yeah totally out of line. Organism runs around here like he's some gods gift to reefers. I was legitimately interested as I like unique corals like everyone else. The blue base on those are sweet and you don't see that often. Common rics go for 20 bucks usually so a bit more for a sweeter than normal piece and YOU like it is all that really matters. Thanks for sharing.

My fault man I should nt have asked how much.

I know, it's awful being on a board where people have different opinions on things and post them, I apologize, please don't ban me. If you could let me know what I can and can't post to make you happy that would be immeasurably appreciated, I just lose so much sleep over what people on the internet think about me...

There's so many recent joke zoanthid name threads that you need to hurry and post on before the confusion keeps spreading.

Really, I'm sorry I ever started this thread.

Peace out...

Sarcasm aside, it's nothing against you and I'm sincerely sorry if you took it that way, honestly I was just blown away that someone really put that name onto a ric. If it's worth it to you that's what matters, I'm just blown away that marketing has actually gotten so out of hand that you can't tell the jokes from reality anymore.

@Organism
That wasn't joking. That was you insulting someone about how much they paid for a ricordea that they were clearly very proud of. And clearly you don't care what others think of you, but perhaps you should think about how you make others feel. I mean it seems like in this forum in particular, all you want to do is troll around and laugh and make fun of people who buy things at prices you wouldn't pay.

Anyways, I'm sure I'm just beating my head against a wall, since trolls will be trolls.

I didn't say I was joking, I just thought the thread was a joke like the ones in the zoanthids forum a little while ago. I don't care how much someone pays for something, if it's worth it to them then it is what it is, which is why I felt bad that I came off as jumping on jg1.

My issue is with how much someone charges for something by putting a ridiculous name on it, it's turning the hobby into a joke. You know, like the "very very very rare" mushroom thread you're referring to, where people (coincidentally banned) were hyping a common mushroom to sell it for $250-400+ a polyp, and I told people they might find them at $6-12 a pop at their LFS and posted proof in pictures. If that makes me a troll then oh well, either way I'm far from the only one who thought this thread had to be a spoof.

In all seriousness, it's just an orange ric. I mean come on. I thought orange was the most common color?

If you like it, get it. Not going to lie that I had some before but the whole name thing is really annoying.

I don't see how it was taken that organism was jumping on anyone in this thread. He was simply stating his opinion about how SOMEONE put a name on a ric.

Everything I have read would say green is the most common. Also, from what I have personally seen and discussed with the two vendors I have used, is that the green ones are the most common and the least expensive. I read one place that said brownish ones are also very common, but I haven’t seen any of those for sale?

If you go back and read all the threads you can see the OP was embarrassed (but he shouldn't have been). One poster even makes that point.

One can be annoyed about something, be passionate about a topic, or have a strong opinion, but he did it at the expense of the OP. I am sure his intent was to be helpful, but the emotions behind the "named corals" topic took him somewhere else. He did the right thing and apologized.

GF1: My favorite ric is the orange with blue like yours. If you can control your lamps, you should try to have the actinic lights come on early and stay on later than your other lamps. The orange ones really pop under actinic and I love to see them at that time. I bought two of the same six months or so ago and they are now six. Lastly, if you didn't already know, the super glue comes in a gel form and I find it to be much easier to use than just the plain super glue.

Yes, you can buy regular rics for under $10 from swap meets or LFS, and premium ones for under $20 in many places, but if you find one that knocks you socks off then it is certainly worth a few dollars more. It is not like you were buying a hundred of them, you bought two. Enjoy the ric and I hope this event has not diminished your enthusiasm for your new purchase! I could feel your excitement (well at least in the beginning) and hope your ric makes you a proud father soon!

At least in my area, I see way more oranges than greens. Anyhow, if you like it and it's worth it to you then get it.

If you look at the pics of the ric, the orange crush Ric is much brighter orange than your typical orange ric. I think its reasonable for it to fetch a higher price than average ric, whether it had a name or not.

.

Just so you and some others know, its not your common orange ric. These are much much more vibrant with a very blue center. I did see several of these at our yearly frag swap this last saturday, I can assure you they are no where near a basic orange ric. At our frag swap they were 30 each so IMO what the OP paid was in line with the current market price. I hate it as much as the next guy that vendors run around and name every thing but sometimes it does help to identify something to a wide market.

ive got 3 of the orange krush rics, and they are VERY unique, and easily twice as bright and vibrant as the standard orange rics. I paid between 40-65 for each of my 3 pieces bought online. If you think that these are just your normal rics, you are sadly mistaken.

I love rics and yumas.. ive bought a bunch of the from coral morphologic. Great guys. Considering the price of rics avg around 15 bux for common stuff at my lfs, paying 25 to 35 for a very uncommon morph seems acceptable to me. I like names for corals personally. I think its easy to describe a coral this way. Like zoas, most would know what a blue hornet looks like by name. Since a lot of corals look similar but not nearly equal, it can lead to mis understandings when hobbyists trade and sell corals since most hobbiest photography skills are not the greatest.

Sweet ric ya got there! Love it. Gotta see if the have any more of those. :)

Orange is most def. not the most common color...

green is the most common color, then comes blue

The only reason people see so much orange is because it is the most vibrant color that ricordea come in making it the most desirable making them the main target for the divers who harvest them.

Ricordea reefs are littered with dull washed out shades of greens and blues, being able to spot the premium colors or even finding them at all takes time and the "orange krush" is a perfect example of that...

I harvest ricordeas on a regular basis and believe me orange ricordea is far from common and "orange krush" is even far less common.

Personally I like the creative names that people come up with for all of these corals. I think that it makes this hobby more fun!

I can never tell how vibrant corals are unless I see them in person. I use 6000 k bulbs over my rics and on the Coral Morphologic site it looks like they use 20000 k bulbs. Plus sometimes I see a photo and wonder if its photo shopped (not referring to this thread). Those rics look nice though. I hope I come across some. Coral Morphologic never used to give random names to the rics they collect in the keys.
