ok, i've wanted a mantis shrimp for some time now and finally i was able to set aside a tank just for him, tried to do everything right, and of course something along the way went wrong. i only had a 20g tank which i was told would be plenty for a spearing mantis since they like to hide in the sand all day anyway. so the last time i was at the good saltwater store (the bad one lists mantis shrimp as "community" whenever they get one in, which is more hilarious because pepp. shrimp are "semi-aggresive") they had a mantis, i asked about its requirements (already knowing most but its always good to make sure) told them i'd only have a 20 gallon tank and that i was planning on keeping him in it for the rest of his life and they said no problem. so, im fairly sure it is either a Lysiosquillina maculata, or a Lysiosquillina glabriuscula. but im leaning towards the first because it looks more like mine, behaves like they describe, and the 2nd type is rare. hopefully im wrong and im hoping someone will correct me/ have more information. but anyway, the first grows to be like 40cm long which im geussing won't be ok in a 20 gallon. ugh, any help, thoughts, or anything would be appreciated. i geuss also a new set of requirments would also be appreciated, right now he's only about 5-6 inches long.

yea, sorry that was kinda all over the place. mostly i'm asking if its possible i did get a mantis that'll grow to 40cm. if it'll happen quick, and what size tank i'll need now and how soon.

I dont think you have too much to worry about straight out the gate. I'm pretty sure your mantis wont grow more than 2 inches a year considering the average molt time is 3 to 4 months. if you have a Lysiosquillina maculata, then eventually you will need to upgrade to a 30+ gallon tank. although if its a Lysiosquillina glabriuscula the 20 gallons will do fine. Youll also need to have a sandbed as deep as the Stomatopod is long
