So Sad.... something needs to be done.

If you were out there ... saw a swarm of them like that eatting all those acros up... wouldnt you start fragging them like mad...

I dont care if its illegal... the way its going, soon... wild reefs will be GONE!

if not from pollution, or starfish, or other natual causes... then something else..

Yeah nice starfish recipe, or say that they increase the lasting power of men, and they'll go the way of the Dodo!

I seem to recall seeing a PBS special on them a LONG time ago, there are natural predators but it takes like a month for one to be consumed by the predator, they also injected them with a poison around the GBR.

yeah...

Hum, CrownStars soup... sounds a bit like something you might find in Japan...

lol, along with the pufferfish recipe... heck, someone could make some BUCKS!~

Darn to die.. eat starfish! haha

The corals or the starfish ;) If your talking about the starfish that would only make things worst.

Some of it also has to do with the collection of the Giant Triton (Charonia tritonis) which preys on the Crown of Thorns. Please avoid purchasing these shells.

They look like the mines from WW2 I was just watching a show on the history channel last night about the atlantic wall front of Hitler.

LOL, no I was referring to the Corals.. haha

WOW, I didnt know that... Never bought one, but wow, I didnt know that!

Man I saw those things diving in Indo. They are big, nasty and scarey. We were told that if you poke one, they'll reproduce much quicker. We were also told that its due to overfishing of the starfish's natural predators. Go figure.

I believe if you poke one.. you shall die... they are poisonous to my understanding

My boss saw one of these things at one of our suppliers places while handpicking fish and stuff..

I was like... WHY ON EARTH...

but thats a good idea, they need to collect them for sale..

HECK, this way, they would die when people couldnt feed them, and that would help out the reefs...

WHO WANTS A 4 FOOT POISONOUS STARFISH TODAY, ON SPECIAL, 2dollars each!

wooo hoo!!!! HARVEST TIME!

Agreed, Let me get my 2 gallon holding facility setup... just a moment

... OK NOW WE ARE IN BUSINESS!!!

WHO WANTS TO GO DIVING?

halequin shrimp and parrotfish eat them as well. the shrimp are too small to do a real number on them. but they are sort of a parasite. they come up like every 100 or 50 years. but now it is due to fertalizers used in farming washing off the land into the water. i guess its perfect conditions for these bastards.

Actually then you would have a bunch of morons buying up corals just to feed them!

You are partially correct, and it is not so much the fertilizers, but a by product of the fertilizers that are rich in nitrogen and phosphorous, as we all know is algae, the offspring of these starfish feed on the algae as they are maturing, once mature they eat SPS. the problem is that before the sugar farmers started poluting the waters, most of the offspring died of starvation, now almost 90% of them make it through, so it is an infestation of biblical proportions. I would say that to battle this infestation, besides over fishing of these things, we also need to attack it by harvesting its predators in fish farms and such and then let them loose in the reef. sort of a two way attack. once under control nature can take care of the rest, as long as we dont start over fishing its natural predators again.

That's a sad sight but it is the natural order of things.
What I did like is the link at the bottom of the page takes you to some AWESOME tank pics. Most BB and some of the best coloring I have seen in sps. Check for yourself.

I think what we need to do is to aquaculture Acro crabs en masse and send them out in battalions. After drip acclimating of course.
