So this happened this morning...

Thought I lost a fish somehow.... Little guy ended up in the surface skimmer..:sad2:
But it is ok, thankfully. Thinking about adding netting or something to it so it can't happen again.

That's a first. I've never seen that before. You could add some sort of screen to cover the skimmer pump, but I don't think you'll need to. I don't think you'll ever see that again.

Really? I used to work for a guy who had 4 systems in his basement (combined approx 3000g) and I'd maintain them. I never saw that before. I would occasionally find a fish, seastar or anemone in an over flow or a fish in a sump, but I've never seen one in a skimmer cup. He's lucky he survived!

I've seen that before. That looks like the surface skimming part of the overflow, not the skimmer. I've never seen a fish in the skimmer cup...that would be pretty close to impossible.

honestly, personally I probably wouldn't put netting on it. The netting would keep him out of the cup yes...But he would probably dry out sitting on the netting. At least in the cup you can find and catch him easily. Now if you could retrofit a cone to sit on top of the overflow that would allow him to fall back into the tank, that's a different story.

It was the craziest thing... I had to get a spoon and small measuring cup to get him out... Every time I went to grab him, he would flop around and wiggle away.

You're right. Definitely not a skimmer cup. My mistake, I never enlarged the picture. The thumbnail looked like a skimmer cup to me.

Yes that is what I meant. Surface skimming part for the drain to the sump.

On my frag tank the drain is an open 1 1/2" pipe. On day 1, one of three green chromis went down the waterslide to the sump where there is ~#100 of live rock. It will be it's forever home because I will not be removing all that rock to get it out.

I've found 2 fish in my sump so far. A juvi clown and a adult jawfish....

Going to be putting egg crate in my overflow to prevent it.
