So what do you keep with your Haddoni?

Well I have had nothing but a 18+ Haddoni in my 92g for a little over a year and only to clarkiis to keep in the tank and I want some more fish, but I don't want to lose any more. I am gana try a school of Chromis, but other than that I have no clue on what would be safe and not dumb enough to swim into him. I would like a flame angle or something. How do you guy have your fish?

I wouldn't even try a school of Chromis based off my experience. I bought three green reef chromis for my 55 gallon while I had a blue Haddoni and within one week, all Chromis were lost. The Haddoni was only 10-13 inches in diameter depending on its active shape. I have had great luck with my purple tang and flame angel avoiding my anemones. They seem to have wits about them.

any of the red sea dottybacks will be fine .

i've had p. springeri , p. flavivertex and p. fridmani together with s. haddoni without a casualty .

i'm sure there are other dottybacks which will be o.k. as well , it's just that i haven't kept them .

Banggai cardinals often use haddonis for shelter (they dont touch the oral disk)
I have a cleaner wrasse, a green mandarin, and a flame angel they are all fine (does not mean they will always be). I have had a green haddons eat a geometric pygmy hawkfish.

Its been maybe four months and there haven't been any losses yet though my haddoni isn't quite as big as yours.

see I had a purple tang and he lasted about 4 months. I am glad I didn't get him at full price, but I miss him. I have plenty of open swimming room since its a 92g corner tank and the front of the tank is open.

I had just the opposite experience with my dottybacks. I introduced 3-4 dottybacks all at seperate times and not one lasted longer for more than two days. All were consumed by the Haddoni.

I would try a purple tang again if you really miss him. I am sure you just got unlucky. Purple tangs are pretty smart fish.

i've kept many without any problems . don't know what species 55semireef had or where they came from . all of mine have been ora farm raised psudo's. . they would swim all around the carpet and hide on the underside of the oral disc when being chased by cogeners , especially when newly introduced to the 100g. aquarium .

I don't think their origin has anything to do with their survival rate. All I know was that I purchased dottybacks and none of them survived.

point being that the farm raised psudo's i have kept , having never been in the wild with no prior exposure to anemone's knew to avoid the sticky tentacles . also imo and exp. they are healthier and you pretty much know how old they are .

i'm writing from exp. with the species of the genus pseudochromis which i've kept . don't know what species you had . sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you .

In my experience most healthy unstressed fish are okay. Any fish that gets sick will mostlikely become haddoni food. When first adding any fish make sure you do it as far away from the anemone as you can. That first dish to the rocks can be deadly if it dashes into the haddoni.

I have triggers, wrasses, tangs and angels, dottyback, and damsel all with mine. Only a puffer landed on it and the puffer looked like it wasn't going to make it to begin with.

My haddoni has eaten some fish but my clowns usually chase them in, or they just dart right into it within the first couple of minutes of being in the tank. I agree with elegance 100%. Mine has only got fish when it was in my 55g. I havent lost anything since I moved it into my 125g. Well maybe a 6-line I dont know though.

It doesn't matter if they were captive bred or wild caught, both species have the same instincts(lol). I don't think it has anything to do with the species, their origin, what they have or have not been around in the wild, its many other factors that play into the equation such as tank volume, amount of hiding places and their personality to name a few.
