So, what's the recommended dkh anyway?

So, i was doing a little digging around and noticed a lot of different values for dkh. This all started because I want a mixed reef and want to start with a Pocillopora as my first SPS.

I saw that liveaquaria says that the Pocillopora should be kept in water with 8-12 dkh, RedSea says a mixed reef should be at 11.5 dkh. The salt i'm using however, Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt makes fresh salt water at 7-8 dkh.

Do i have to bring up the DKH now, or slowly bring it up after future sps corals start consuming it?

There is no magic number really, higher Alk grows your SPS faster lower gets better coloring. I really wouldn't chase a number just pick one and keep it stable. Mine levels out at 8.5 with Kalk dosing so that is where I keep it.
