Sup everybody? I been away for about the the last 1.5 years-- away from MTRC that is. I just got back on here RC in the last month or so. There are so many new names & people here now I dont even know. At 1 point I can remember this was a very very busy board. It doesnt seem that way anymore. Its a little slow in here. Im sure alot of it has to do with the economy this is a expensive hobby & just life in general.

Why did I leave? I left because the club to me seemed as if it was going in a direction I didnt really want to be part of. Instead of a bunch of reefers trying to discuss there likes/dislikes of the hobby or trying to discuss diff ways to achieve the same goal it was more of look what I got & if your not in our clique then you dont matter. Also I guess to some tenderhearted folks I may come off harsh or rude. Its not that Its just my sense of humor I guess.

Things now seem def different. More members seem to be really speaking there mind & if a place is a craphole they will tell you its a crap hole. Im curious if you all are still having monthly meetings? If so hows the turnout?
I know in years past for the Swap there were tons of donations for raffles it doesnt seem that way this year.

As far as the club body goes who does what these days? IE whos the Pres/ Vice Pres & what not?
Is there still a 20.00 membership fee? If so what does it go for?

I guess Im just curious what the state of MTRC is & what direction it is going. Also Im looking forward to meeting some of the new folks around here maybe we can grab a beer somewhere sometime.

It kind of seemed like it turned from Middle Tennessee Reef club to Murfreesboro Tennessee Reef club... at least that's what it feels like to me.... seems like everything happens out there now..

I just checked the mtrc.org website and it's still 20 bux a year...

alot of the people from last year are no longer around or not much at all anymore...

Yea, us Springhillians are left in the cold. Well, literally.

Welcome back. I just joined last year and it looks like I'll be joining again this year. I don't make it to many meetings, but have met some nice folks here. Might be going out for drinks / food in a couple weeks with a few of the guys, if that happens you're welcome to join.

Zach even hired a guy through the club. :D

Yeah, Jason, needless to say things are different. Its... interesting I suppose. Much less diplomatic, for better or worse. To be honest, I don't know if anyone knows where the club is going. In fact, I'm fairly positive no one knows. ;)

Aye. That he did.

Worked out better than the job sites - hah.

So how do you ping a phone number, Brandon? Riddle me that.

people get busy, move, lose interest, effect by economy...thats just how any type of hobbies go... still some old folks, and some new ones....and honestly im on my way out as well (slowly getting rid of some of my stuff)

i came here about 2 years ago (and yes i remember ya bud...you were the first person that gave me some freebies)....and i can honestly say that the club is changed alot...and mike is right, it does seem like its a mufreesboro reef club sometimes, but that doesnt mean its bad in any way...the people who were willing to lend their time to become officers just happen to live out that way...in my opinion, it seems that the club has grown quite well...judging by the size of the frag swap last year, MTRC was definitely putting themselves out there.....we even managed to update mtrc.org

but as for what direction the club is going, im with brandon on this one, no on really knows....but im sure the general idea is to keep the club going...and as for club fees, im sure there are expenses that come from the fragswap every year...im sure if anyone needed to see some figures, they could ask norman (fallinapart) since he's the treasurer

I feel ya John.... I guess everyone is just kind of wondering what's going on... The price of the membership fees is fine to me cause 20 bux a year is alot less than what I save every year from all my purchases so it's well worth it for that reason alone....

I am waiting to see what the turnout is gonna be this year for the swap to kind of get a feel for how things are going... I hope we do well...

Dont get rid of too much cause you'll be back... :lmao:

I'll try to have a couple of frags for ya when you start up again... Just like you help me out when I started...

I want to be clear I wasnt griping about membership fees, I totally understand them & the Discount at the local LFS def makes up the differance. I was just wondering where it is going. I dont want anyone thinking im bashing MTRC Im not

1. Do we have any emergency spare equipment for club members to borrow?
2. All I know is that we have a club Par meter.
3. I understand there are cost related to the swap but how much can that be.
4. Does the club have a healthy bank account for membership of years past?

I know in years past there was a 5.00 admission to the swap I do believe this year it is free which I think will make it bigger & better turn out than before however it doesnt seem as if there are near as many raffle items this year.

I have never heard of the club having emergency equipment to borrow but I think we also have the suction cups for lifting heavy tanks... It has always been an issue trying to keep track of who has what and where...

No I dont think you were complaining about the price of membership either as I wasnt as well...

Nor am I complaining about the club officers in any way cause honestly I did not step up last year and put my bid in. I really dont know what all goes into being an officer so I cant comment on whether they are doing a good job or not I think they do their best with what they have.

Wasnt it free last year as well? I could have sworn it was...

I recall paying to get in last year.

Money goes to things like prizes at at meets. I ahve seen Norm purchase them for the regular meet raffle items. It also is suppsoed to go for things like hosting the website, the cost of materials for the memberships cards, and officer meetings monthly. I am not certain how much (if any) is spent on the swap from our dues.

I am not an officer buy have run several orgs like this. Hope this helps.

OK, I'll try to address a couple of the questions, but not here, I will post on the MTRC web site in the members area as I will address some of the member questions about due and bank account. If you are a member of MTRC and want this information, please to to the below web site and if you have not created an account please do so if you want more information about this subject.

As far as the direction of the club I would have to say that it is grown in size and there has been a big decline in people wanting to Host meetings that is why we seem to have a large amount down here in the boro. But we will be putting a sign up list out for next years meetings and also will have elections I know for sure we will have a few open seats this year. Like anything else we need people to step up and work to make any club worth while. Chuck is the VP and Rhett is the secretary by the way. Chuck is in charge of the frag swap this year and also in charge of the web site but Andy has taken a large roll in that.

There has been some talk about some changes to the club like the club providing refreshments for the meeting and some money to cover the food. I will be letting the new board decide on that as it will be my last on the BOD. :) I unfortunately have to clear a little of my plate to finish my Masters program.

Nominations are after the swap and then the election is in Feb I believe or it may be March. We changed it a year or so ago because of it interfering with the swap.

We charged for the swap 2 years ago because that was our first year with a speaker and we didn't know if we would make enough from the raffle to pay the cost of flying him in, etc. Last year we didn't charge because we had enough in reserve that we could pay the bills even if the raffle/swap didn't turn out well.

I'm pretty sure the elections are in March.
