Spectrapure MaxCaps are very unique in several aspects.
1. Spectrapure individually hand tests each and every membrane and guarantees them to be 98+% rejection rate. This is unheard of in the industry and no one else offers this service or the guarantee, no one. The 98+% efficiency is just one of the ways they get superior life out of the DI and true 18.2 megaohom resistivity product water unlike most other units on the market.
2. Spectrapure uses absoute rated prefilters in the 0.5 or optional 0.2 micron ranges. Other vendors may offer 0.5 micron filters but they are not absolute rated meaning they filter out everything down to and including 0.5 or 0.2 microns. Most other vendors use less expensive and less efficient nominal rated prefilters which only filter out a percentage of particulates down to their rating but not all. There is a big difference if efficiency and in cost.
3. Spectrapure uses 0.5 micron Matrix Chlorine Guzzler carbon blocks good for 20,000 gallons of tap water at 1 ppm chlorine residual. Some of the other vendors and sponsors here on RC use the same but lesser quality "e-bay" type units use way less expensive and less efficient carbons, some that only last as little as 300 total gallons, thats 60 good gallons and 240 waste gallons!
4. Spectrapure custom blends their MaxCap and SilicaBuster DI resins for specific conditions unlike anyone else. They have done thousands of hours of research and found what works best for things like silicates and phosphates.
It takes the whole package to perform at peak levels and last like the MaxCap does. The prefilters and carbons protect the RO membrane and the membrane extends the life of the DI resins. No other system available today works like the MaxCap system. Their guarantee of 3 to 3.5 times longer DI life is proven over and over. Personally I was getting 150 gallons out a tightly packed fresh nuclear grade DI resin cartridge using a Dow Filmtec 75 GPD RO membrane. With my MaxCap, which has been in use 17 months I am still getting 630+ gallons out of every MaxCap cartridge and have yet to change the very first SilicaBuster cartridge even after 1900+ gallons of 0 TDS DI water.
You pay more initially (You can find them as low as $290 from some vendors) but you get what you pay for and then some! I have saved more in DI resin that what the cost difference was by far plus I am getting better water quality as an added bonus.
