So who bought that $800 2" Scolymia from DD?

Essentially it means no brown. That "purple" part on the OP scoly is just white balanced brownish reflecting their lights. The less color and the more dark spots is how they grade scolys, so that one might be an A grade...

How much could I expect to pay for something like this?

Would love to pic up a nice one without spending an arm and a leg. I don't mind spending a couple hundred, but anything over $400+++ is ridiculous.

LFS's around here don't get anything nice in so I'm at the mercy of the vendors online prices.

If you were in LA you could have your pick, your best bet is messaging sites that consistently get in good Aussie pieces and seeing if they can special order one, sometimes vendors will give you a better price if they know it's sold right out of the box...

Great info, personal experience with this?

I used to be a vendor and would give people better prices if I knew it was sold upon arrival, less work for me. It varies on the piece though, if everyone and their mom wants it then for instance emails asking for ultra rainbow acans at a cheaper price are a good example of what to never do. There's a fine line between coming off like an advantage-taking cheapskate and getting your email deleted/blocked vs being genuinely interested in getting something their suppliers might have quite a few of like nice Aussie scolys.

There's some vendors that might be glad to, doesn't hurt to ask.

That's insane!!
It's like pouring the colors of a rainbow acan on a scoly

grafted? don't know, but that does look like one of the baddest looking scoly's i've seen

I'd expect it to be around $1500. The best scoly I ever saw was $700 and this one is unlike anything I've ever seen.

Put it this way, if I was the owner of this scoly and someone came to my house and offered me $1500 for it, my answer would be NO.

But that just might be my "collector side" kicking in.

And if you consider much people pay for colonies, this is one single coral that I would regard as unfraggable so in essence there would be no way to spread this coral around to bring the value down. Like what happens all the time with chalices.

Gorgeous pieces, I will not comment on pricing because I can't claim I was never crazy enough to spend that amount. Taste comes with price tags... Big ones.

Excuse me guys (and gals), but why paying 1500$ for this amazing piece is stupid?..

This is a collector's piece, extremely rare, and to my opinion worth much more than 1500$ ,if you compare it to other types of collectibles- paintings, sculptures, or other kind of art.

Nature made this beautiful thing, it's pure art, and (for me atleast) well worth much than this 61M$ painting for example:

If only I could afford it of course..:headwally:
