Is there anyway to rig a better filter than the sponge for an aquapod?

I have a 12g and the only filtration I have is a sponge in the first chamber...thats it. It runs fine, I do water changes weekly, but I wanted to know if there was somthing better.

i have the 24g and mine came with 2 sponges. I took all the sponges out and cut one in half covered all the intake vents except for the top one with plexiglass and put filter floss on top of the sponge that is left works great as long as you change the floss twice a week. i bought a big bag at walmart for $3 and have had it for 8 months and i am about half way through it.

I blocked the bottom and middle intakes like you have done. Ill try the floss idea.

I was also thinking about buying a sock and cutting it up to fit a "cup" in the intake? Basically creating a miniture sock filter.

put crushed coral in the other chambers, also if you can rig up a light over one chamber and put some chaeto in there.

I have filter floss in the 1st chamber, used to have Chaeto with submersible led light in the 2nd (now have MJ for the chiller), ATO floats in the 3rd, Return pump along with return hose from the chiller which empties into a bag of carbon and phosban. The floss gets changed out 2X per week and is re-usable if you get the good stuff in the plastic bag. I have the vent holes all blocked off with outlet covers, upper "teeth" filed down about 1/4" along with a old credit card glued to the back side all to get good surface skimming so there is no slick on the water surface. It is in my office in clearwater if you want to check it out.

Hey erik, I ever show you the media rack in my ap12? I will see if I have any extra egg crate, I might be able to put one together before you get those frags

Il try to bring some by tommarow. Happy birthday by the way, just got your message and Ill call you tomarrow.
