This company happens to have a location right near me. Here's their product list http://www.dumontchemicals.com/products.htm, I'm wondering what chemicals I could use in my reef tank that I can get bulk from them. One thing I could possibly use is the calcium chloride.

I have emailed them about magnesium chloride but haven't heard back yet.

What about sodium percarbonate? Not the same as sodium carbonate (washing soda)?

I could also use some of that and baking soda for my swimming pool!

No, not even :)

This chemical works similar to Sodium Perborate. The powders brake down into hydrogen peroxide when added to water and then to O2. They are a form of bleach that raises the O2 levels up very high.

Sodium Percarbonte = 2Na2CO3Ã"šÃ‚·3H2O2

Notice the 3H2O2, that is hydrogen peroxide. The reaction is;

2 Na2CO3 . 3 H2O2 → 2 Na2CO3 + 3 H2O2

then 2 Na2CO3 --- >4 Na+ + 2 CO3--

the H2O2 ---> H20 + O2

The pH of the solution is alkaline, which activates the H2O2 for bleaching. The powder contains about 30% H2O2.

This is the kind of stuff you find in non-chlorine bleach laundry soaps like Oxydol, OxiClean and things like Arm & Hammer toothpaste

Your link is als in error and should be. You have a , at the end of yorurs ;0

Oops, sorry about the comma. Well hopefully they have magnesium chloride and calcium chloride at least.

Thanks for the excellent explanation of sodium percarbonate. Not something that I want to put in a reef tank...
