Software Glitch?

Curt,
Everytime I Close out of the "Modify Aqua Program" and log back into it, about 5 or 6 my "O"s (from OFF or ON) turn to C's D's or another letter? This happens every time and I have to correct it before I can update. Is this just an unstable program? What can fix it?

I suspect that you are using a serial cable to connect to a AC3 or AC3PRO. Use an ethernet connection to connect your PC to these controllers; the serial connection is not supported.

Curt

Correct, I am using serial cable connection to USB adapter...
but the only reason I have this connection is because when I try Ethernet connection, it say Aquacontroller not responding?

To get AquaNotes to connect to the 3 through Ethernet do the following:

- Make sure that the Communication Type is Direct Connection on the Connection tab of the Site database window.

- One the config tab of the database->tank database window select TCP (Aqua3) for Interface, and then enter the IP address, login, and password of the AquaController. Also make sure that the serial number of the database tank database window matches the serial number of the controller (see self test on controller).

You may have to restart AquaNotes after making these changes.

hmmm...Curt..cannot get it connected. I'm back on Serial.....gave it my best shot..will try again later..

Can you access the controller through a web browser? If not, follow these instructions, and then you should be able to also access it from AquaNotes.

First you need to get the settings for your local network ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ you can do this by bringing up a command shell on your PC (type cmd in the start->run window of your PC). In the cmd shell type ââ"šÂ¬Ã‹Å“ipconfig /allââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ This will display your IP address, netmask, default gateway, and dns server.

Youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll need to enter the netmask, default gateway, and dns server into the AquaControllerââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s network setup menus. Go to the setup->net setup menu is on the AquaController 3. The IP address should be unique and different then your PCs ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ most likely youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll only change the last 3 digits of the address. Youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll access the controller through your internet browser by typing in the IP address of the controller in the address field of your browser. If that works, then you can try to access the controller from the internet.
Your router needs to be configured so that inbound port 80 tcp requests are sent to the AquaController's IP address on port 80. Usually this is in a virtual server setup menu or the port forwarding section of the router. If your ISP blocks incoming port 80 requests then you will have to use a different port number. In this case you would configure your router to route incoming port 4567 (or any other 4 digit number) to port 80 of the AquaController's IP address. You should enter the internet ip address (like 123.45.67.111) into a web browser to access the controller's web server. If your isp blocks port 80 then you would need to enter the address as http://123.45.67.111:4567 - substitute your internet IP address for 123.45.67.111. On your local network you can find your internet IP address by going to www.whatismyip.com.

If this doesnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t help, please call when you are in front of your controller and Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll help you through the configuration.

Hey Curt, I guess I'll be talking to you soon, because I just spent another 3 hours trying to get any other type of connection other than Serial. Still cannot connect......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kind of had the same problem with mine, but I uninstalled the Ethernet card and rebooted the computer so it would reinstall the card and that fixed it. It's worth a try.

Acro,

Are you connecting your ethernet card directly to your ACIII? If so you need a cross over cable, or you need to connect through a router.

Hey Icurn,
Thanks, yes I have tried connecting direct using a crossover cable and it still does not work, when I direct connect via crossover cable it still says little or no connectivity in my Local Area Connection Icon.
I have tried a router, my wireless router, switches, wireless adapters, My PC, my laptop, even my old laptop...nothing seems to work.....I am so frustrated....
I have searched this forum all last night, and tried many things recomended
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

we are having the same type of issues here. I think this is a wonderful product that works great and is very useful when running, but the setup directions are not so great. There should be an easy to follow step by step setup instruction in the box that it comes with. You should not have to look up internet stuff or make multiple phone calls to get this running, or have to me a network specialist.

Hey Acro, had the same problem and just stumbled across this. I was putting the the ip address/password/login name/serial number in and realized that the password AND the login name appear to be case sensitive. I had the username Admin and when I changed it to admin it works. Also had to shutdown the program and restart after each change.

Thanks Laurent...

Thanks Laurent...

Whew, finally got connected without serial.
Thank you Laurent for spending the time and helping out.:D
Next is trying to tackle the issue of reaching the AC from outside my network......

Good to hear that you have it working now. Thanks for helping Laurentm.
I've updated the FAQs in www.neptunesys.com/support.htm with instructions on how to configure Ethernet on the controller. If what you got stuck on is not in the FAQ, let me know what caused the problem, and I'll update the FAQ.

Curt

Hey Curt, Thanks, and I'll check out the FAQs in a bit. In the mean time since I had to remove Aquanotes and reload it, can I just use the link you gave me before to upgrade notes to 3.2?

Hey Curt, I am having problems with 3.2 Notes software.
My 3.1 works just fine, everything works perfect as expected.
When I upgrade and load 3.2 on and try to open Aquanotes I have an Error message "Run-time error '94' Invalid use of Null" this happens every time......this is the reason I originally uninstalled 3.2. I have installed and uninstalled 3.2 about 4 times. I even tried removing everything Aquanotes, and starting fresh....
Neither 3.1 or 3.2 loads cleanly, both say "Path/File access error An unexpected Setup error has occurred!" but when I hit retry it immediately says "Aquanotes 3.1/3.2 setup was completed successfully"
What is the difference between 3.1 & 3.2, what am I missing by just running 3.1., which is running just fine.....
