Sohal tang in a 180g?

My LFS has a 8 - 9" Sohal in a 125 and it's been there for at least five years. He seems hearty and happy to me. Of course, he's the only fish in a softie/LPS reef.

i think they are just too aggressive to live with anything else in such a small tank. i personally wouldn't put one in anything less than 500 gallons.

I'd have to go along with Andrew on this one...I had a Sohal (5" initially) in a 6 foot tank and he was OK for a while. Chased other fish occassionally but not too vicious. By the time he got to about 8" he started getting meaner and would swim furiously back and forth in front of the reef and nipped at every fish that came near him, as though he felt boxed in.

A Sohal in a 180 isn't necessarily a bad decision. Just be prepared for the fact that he will get bigger and will need to be removed.
