Sohal Tang

Never owned one, but setting up a 500g 130" tang now and am considering adding one to my mix. I've heard horror stories from just about anyone I've known that owned one in anything but a frag system. Killing tangs, Angels, etc.

I assume they should go in last and small, but I've actually heard the smaller ones are more aggressive than older/larger ones.

Any input would be appreciated

I kept a Sohal twice. In both cases the fish was OK until it got to about 7 or 8 inches in length and then ..... watch out! Second one was worse than the first; essentially killing all the other fish in the tank (Tang and non-Tang). Would even try to get my hand with it's scalpel. As close as a fish can get to evil IMO. Pass!

Mine was evil in my tank. It was 7-8". It was very sneaky, and would be swimming around nonchalantly then swim by another fish then slash the heck out of it and swim off like nothing ever happened. It killed my Achilles. I won't have another one. (I have an 8' 240 gallon tank, lightly stocked)

However, after me it went to another guy I know and he never had any issues with it, and also had a 8' 240 gallon tank, it got to be maybe 10"-12" in his tank . So who knows.

Don't do it! I had mine for a few years along with a Purple Tang, Majestic Angel, French Angel, Queen Angel, Blueface Angel, Semi Butterfly, and some others. It was ok when it was introduced last at approximately 3-4". A model citizen. But as soon as it grew to 6" or so, it took over the tank. Killed my Semi and Queen. Punked my Majestic, French and Blueface whom were all bigger than he was if not close in size. Always chased them into different corners in the tank. Just got rid of him a few weeks ago...
