Solana tank owner thread.

Quick question... Ordered my Solana last week and it hopefully will arrive by the end of the week. Have been purchasing the other misc items needed as well. I got my Vortech MP10 today. I am now a bit worried that it will not be enough. I will be building to a mixed reef and will likely have SPS once the tank settles in. Should I return the MP10 and go for the MP20 or MP40?

Hey Michael,

You're going to get a lot of mixed responses from this question. I had an MP10 on my cube and thought it was plenty of flow, while I've seen one tank (a very nice tank by the way) with an MP10 and an MP40..

I am getting an mp20 on my solana tomorrow, just because I want to see if the flow is a bit more spread out.

One of the mods of another forum sold their mp20 and bought an mp10 because the 20 was too much flow..

I'd stick with an mp10 now, and if you don't like it.. sell it.. They are currently holding their value really well.

I have an MP20 in my Solana and keep it dialed down to avoid blowing sand. I've had to move it around a fair amount to find the right spot. A lot depends on how your rock is structured, obviously. I've never used a 10, but given my experience with the 20 I doubt the 10 isn't enough.

Hey Mod from the other site here LOL. I liked the MP20 quite a bit but I really like the MP10. Now I don't have to worry about my son messing with it and causing a sand storm like he did with the mp20, plus I don't have to dial the mp10 down as far as the MP20 and it almost disappears into the tank.

In my experience with my mp10 its has more then enough flow, the wave motion is second to none. seeing my RBTA bouncing back and forth, with only one powerhead is amazing to see. plus the mp20 uses 4 more amps of power if your trying to save on those monthly bills.

34 solana.
BTW the MP 10 is great in there. It really is the only flow you need unless you have a very crowded tank.

What light fixture & bulbs do you have/using on your tank?

Mp 10 is awesome in a solana. In short pulse mode I can get wave action to about a 1/8" from coming over the sides. In constant mode it can blow sand

You should try a MP20 then...

I have it mounted on the rear wall in the center, I got a new dry dock made that has the front wall made out of thinner acrylic and I have no issues with stopping anymore. With the original dry dock the acrylic was too thick and the magnet was not strong enough so it would stop from time to time. This is by far my favorite tank I have had. I have had a 29 and 55 aga and the 24 and 12 pod and this one . I've Got a 14g biocube brewing for an angler fish setup but that is a story for another thread.

Rich (Jackson) in the time that I have known him through the forums has never had a tank that was not awesome looking! I know I have to take some pics of my tank but it could never compare to Rich's tank empty.

The MP20 was great but I really like the MP10.

What fish do you have in your solana?

I have a pair of onix clowns and a cromis and would like to add more fish, what do you guys suggest?
