Solana tank owner thread.

I did not take pictures of the tank packaging. Was a standard box in a box with foam corners. Surprisingly, the stand and light were packed more carefully IMO. Stand was layered in 3+ boxes. Light was inside and outer box that was almost two inches thick and wrapped in carpet padding. Took longer to unwrap the two of them then it did to build the stand!

well I'll keep my eye out for a used one w/ black stand.

I've looked online and it looks like it would be $400 for the aquarium and then $260 for the stand... redic

For the rear this is what I did. I took out all the bioballs etc and put cheato in the center chamber then the egg crate table you see then Chemipure on top of that. under the chemipure covering 90% of the egg crate is a poly filter pad cut to fit. all of the first chamber is my Tunze 9002 Skimmer.

Thanks Chiefmcfuz. Sounds close to what I am planning.

Anyone else have a setup to share? I'd love to see a few more options/solutions.

Anyone know of a source from a Vortech Drydock? Media Baskets . com is not making them currently. I may use a freezer ziploc bag for now, but that is less than ideal. I also do not have the motivation to try to make my own currently.

thought i would post some pics of my solana in this thread..its about 7 1/2 months old

Great looking tank Jason7504 ... seems like you have very good growth/color. What lighting are you using?

Does anyone recall what model is the low iron glass? I was examining my new tank closely and it looks like the front/sides are low iron? I saw no mention on the current-usa website. Is it now standard? Did I get luck? I got a model 7043.

Model 7043 is the low iron glass model. The normal glass is 7048. I think that the low iron glass model is the only one they make now, at least that is what I've heard.

OK I am having problems I was setting up my tank today and having trouble with the water level. It seems that when I shut the power off (simulating a power outage) the back compartment fills up too full and pushes up the top-off bottles, it comes within 1 1/2" of the top of the back compartment. It seems when the pump stops instead of stoping the flow after draining past the overflow notches it continues to drain through what seems to be the T nozzle (outlet) maybe creating a suction. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just something you deal with during a power outage. Please help.

I think this is normal behavior of the tank and it's design.
I get the same results as well.

Pumps do not normally stop water flow when off. To do so, there would need to be a check valve in place. Those are generally not used as they are points of failure. Just like a larger separate sump, the rear chamber is designed to hold the extra water when pumps shut down.

The top-off bottles will of course float if they are not full. Replace them with some ATO as soon as you can for this and many other reasons. I am using mine only until I get some additional pieces for doing ATO with my RKE.

FYI, I finished placing my livestock in my new tank this morning. While doing so, I turned off the pumps. My water bottle floated up as it filled just like yours and yep, that is annoying. Clearly the ATO that comes with is more of a marketing thing and not a great long term solution unfortunately.

Given my whole one day of experience with this tank, please feel free to correct me or differ with my opinion. :)
