Solana tank owner thread.

So I'm still curious about the 9002 installation. Here you can see my skimmer in chamber 1 with the water level about 1/2" below the tunze line and the cup flush with the top of the tank. I did not remove the stock magnet off the skimmer. Is it possible the new cups have the tube positioned in such a way that removal is not needed now?

Please let me know if I'm missing something here but it looks good to go to me?

Thanks for the input Mook Man

I'm only testing my skimmer quickly in freshwater right now so maybe that has an effect but I find the air intake to be very loud on my 9002. Any ideas about this?

In saltwater and after proper adjustment mine became considerably quieter

Do you have a build thread?

(scroll to the bottom for tunze skimmer placement and mods)
awesome build on your last tank do you have two tanks now?
anyways good luck and keep us posted.

Yes I had previously seen that thread. The skimmer shown there in pictures at least is in chamber 2. I have mine in the first one but I'm not sure one is better than another?

I had to sell that system and that house. Downgrades all around and the Solana seemed like a nice fit. No build thread on RC only a more local forum to me...

I am running carbon passively in the second chamber and will soon start to run gfo in that chamber too. Just throw it in a media bag and your done. No need for a reactor IMO. Not saying you cant run one.... :)

Are you just placing the bag(s) on the top grate in the 2nd chamber?

When I initially set mine up and ran ChemiPure and Purigen, I zip tied them to the bottom grate in chamber two. If you do the top grate, I do not think the contact would be sufficient as the water flows over chamber one into two.

Depends what chamber you run it in. I popped off the magnet ad made a stand for the second chamber and it fits perfectly.

I haven't heard of many people doing it any other way.

I haven't bought my tank or any equipment yet but I was just down at my LFS and measured it with my tape measure. They had the 9002 in the 2nd chamber with stock cup and it fit no problem. I dont see why it wouldn't fit in the 1st/overflow chamber. the cup is 3.75 inches in diameter and the width of the solana's rear chamber is 4".... somebody correct me if I am wrong...

edit: ok, I see the overflow column blocks the cup. something i did not notice in the fish store. Looks like im gonna put my chaeto in chamber one and my skimmer in chamber 2.

is it ok to have the chemipure underneath the tunze skimmer in chamber #2? will it still perform well?

Just thought I'd add a pic of my new setup. Only life in there are some hermits, emerald, snails, bicolor blenny and a royal gramma.

Return - MJ600
Flow - Tunze 6025
ATO - Tunze Osmolator
Skimmer - Tunze 9002 with StevieT cup
100W Ebo and Azoo 4 fan cooling on dual-stage Ranco

Girlfriend popped the breaker by accident trying to turn one of the ones back on downstairs that tripped. My return pump did not fire up after power returned. Skimmer was overflowing like crazy... yada yada... :)

What are you guys running in place of it? I know it is 400gph or so. Maybe a MJ1200 is enough?

Thanks!

Brad

Well this is my new Solana. I've been planning on this forever so I hope it fits well in this thread.

Everything is currently stocked components. I have the system on a Reef Keeper Lite. I have a 200w titanium heater, MP40w(alot of flow but has been turned down to about 25%).

I plan on adding an ATO system with a 5 gallon tank in the stand, dosing system for cal/alk/mag. I'm receiving a JBJ 1/10hp Chiller this week to hook up to the system. I am going to replace the stock skimmer with a Tunze9002. This will all pan on over the course of the summer but I will keep updates.

That looks really nice mr86mister.

Anyone have a problem with their water level being high? I noticed after i moved to a new apartment and moved my tank that my water level is maybe 1/4" to 1/2" from the rim and it used to be about 1". The water level in my back chambers is the same...and if I pull my pre-filter sponge out it still stays at that level.

Thoughts? I'd like to put a vortech in at some point and do a little light wave action, but uhh...not at this water level. :P

Thanks dweebikus. Hmmm I wonder why it's like that. If your sump is the same then the display water level should be the same as it was.
