Solana tank owner thread.

Yes, the angles are a pain in my behind. I used something similar and it just doesnt come off clean. I'm about to just let the zoas go at it! ahha ;)

Stock return pump for now... will eventually replace with a MJ900. Vortech MP10 for remaining flow. I can not say enough about the Vortech... it rocks!

I don't understand how the mp10 works really. I did some research, and i know that it has all of these different wavermaker modes and such, but since it is on the glass, won't it be putting flow out in only one direction?

Would the mp10 and a koralia nano be too much flow?

Will a Sunpod 150 keep SPS and clams in a 34g or do I want to go for a 250?

I am ordering a 34g with the Starphire front glass and wanna keep some SPS and a clam but will be mostly softies...

rck

LOL OK well I dropped the hat and bought a 34g w the starphire glass... Now I need to light it...! thats is once I get it...

It does produce flow in one direction, but since it alternates the intensity, you get a simulated ebb and flow of a reef. You could add a Korilia Nano, but the output of it would probably get lost in the flow from the Vortech. That said, I have thought about adding a small secondary flow pump but have not seen enough of a need to justify it.

Well got my Solana today ! Well so I thought til I opened the box lol Completely smashed ! Hopefully ill get another one W/o a problem .:fun4:

I have an MP10 on mine and sometimes wonder if its enough flow. I think there are quite a few dead spots, especially in the back (Mp10 is more towards the front). I often wonder if mine is running ok. I have it at 100% on reefcrest, and hear that many people have their's turned down quite a bit.

Lighting???? Just bought a 34g and will need to light it once I get it running...

Sunpod 150 or 250?

Something might be up... I have mine at about 30% power on reefcrest and it is plenty strong... Anymore and I'd knock corals over. It is a ll personal pref of course. :)

What do you want to keep? If you want the ability to do just about anything, go 250... of course my personal pref is T5 lighting. My SPS is doing very well under T5 without the extra power usage and heat.

I wanna keep a lil of everything... lol SPS, clam, zoo's and so on and I will have a few fish.

After I think about it 250 might be a lil too much added heat and over kill.... I have sourced a local 150 for sale :)

Yeah I have mine turned way down as well, might want to have it checked out. I`m running a 150 w Mh no heating issues yet..

I would go with the 250. I have a 400w HQI over mine and keep a little of everything. My SPS and LPS love it, but it is a little high for my zoas and shrooms. I am thinking of backing it down to a 250 myself.

For those of you running the disco ball, how long do you have it on? I've been losing a lot of corals lately - some even within 2 days of putting them in the tank. I have checked all my parameters and had the LFS do so also. They also agreed that everything seems ok. They said that some of the problems may be from too much UV. I was running a Phoenix 14k for 9 hours a day and have now scaled it back to 6 hours. I'm sure hoping that was it, but I'm just curious to what others are running, timewise.

I have the Disco ball fixture 4" over my tank. I have a Phoenix 14k bulb that I run for 11 hrs a day. Everything seems to be doing good. I'm surprised I haven't read much about anyone putting LED's over their Solana. I'm thinking of ordering either a 12" Aqua Illuminations fixture or Maxspect G2-160w. Any suggestions??

Solana update

Solana update

I have not updated my tank in about four months and there has been some pretty good change. The first picure below is of the tank in Feb. about a month after setting it up. The next two are of it in April, and the rest were taken today. I had to get rid of the RBTA because it was getting way too big for the tank and was taking up all of the available space. Now I am considering doing the same with the Hammer and Frogspawn in order to make room for more SPS. Let mo know what you all think.
