Solana tank owner thread.

My LFS has a cadlights 50g on display... It looks like a nice tank, but I really don't like how low it is to the ground, because of the short stand. I'd recommend getting a taller stand instead of the one it came with if you don't want to constantly stoop or sit to look in the tank. With stand, it's about the same price as the 60 Gallon XL Solana, except it comes with a skimmer ($149.99 value) and lighting ($274.99 value). It seems like a very good value. I'd probably sell the light it comes with and put it towards my own lighting system. It seems like most people are happy with their cadlights. I'd have to take another look at them before I pass judgement.

Thought I would share a screen I built for my Solana over the weekend. I used standard window screen parts you can pick up at a hardware store and instead of a regular "screen" I used bird netting (usually used in a garden). It took about 25 mins to do it and most of that time was spent cuttng the screen to fit over my rock wall. It looks and works great (which was all that is important to me). I'm switching my lighting to a Aqua Illumination LED this weekend :D

Thanks Paul, I'm glad I made the wall for this tank it adds alot of depth and makes it a little different from every other AIO tank. I didn't like the look of a solana with coraline algae growing on the back at my LFS. That was the main reason I went with it. I may do it for my empty 90 gallon tank but I'm undecided.

Ah gotcha. I've never seen it in person and honestly didnt check out the stand height.
I do like that you can customize the setup on their site. I'd probably nix most of the options and just get the tank, stand and sump and get my own skimmer and light.

I'm still toying with the idea of tearing out the back chambers of the Solana and doing an external overflow box using the back notch for the wires as the overflow. I've already got a skimmer, just need to pick up a return pump and get to tinkering haha

Pics with the AI on the tank as soon as you can please! LOL

I was wondering if anyone has removed the cord from the HQI pendant (orb) fixture. I got some new LEDs that I would like to mount from the pendant support, but I can't figure out how to remove the cord from the support to mount the new fixture. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am sure this has been asked before in this forum but I dont feel like looking through hundreds of pages to find the answer.

Does anyone know if the glass on the bottom of the solana is tempered. I have just finished setting up a drilled picotope and am wanting to do the same with a solana. If it is not tempered I might just order another tank and give it a shot.

i remember reading that it is...but that was somebody's words and not the manufacturer.

best bet would be to email current usa and ask them if it is.

The official word from Current USA is that, and I quote, "The glass on the bottom of the Solana is not tempered so it is possible to be drilled."

Whats the deal with drilling an all-in-one tank? Why not just go out and buy a cube tank and sell the solana?

The Solana is a great tank, but like any AIO it has many limitations. I love the shape and size of the tank. I have yet to find another glass (I HATE acrylic tanks) cube that has the same or similar dimmensions that is not rediculously expensive. At only $329 the solana seems like a good tank to drill and set up with a sump.

anyone have a link or info on putting leds over a 34g solana it is a mixed reef sps at top lps and softys mid to bottom. I just don't want to buy the wrong thing would like to do it right the first time thanks
